Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze the effects of operating site verification and timeout performance rate for protocol application for the purpose of decreasing medical malpractice and improving patient safety circumstances.

Methods: The research design was a single group posttest design. The protocol was performed for over three months. Total 2.536 cases of surgery in D University hospital operating room were analyzed using computerized program.

Results: The results showed that the performance rate of the operating site, verification was 70.49£¥ on the first month, 78.24£¥ on the second month, and 92.01£¥ on the third month after applying the protocol. And the performance rate of the timeout was increased from 61.91£¥ on the first month to 87.94£¥ on the third month.

Conclusion: The results suggest that operating site verification and timeout protocol is effective and can be recommended to use as a operating room protocol to prevent wrong site errors of patient during operation.
